What was happening in your life a year ago? Were you happily married? Were you contemplating divorce? Were you separated but not yet divorced?
Christmas 1991 I was married and spending the holidays with my husband’s family. Christmas 1992 I was divorced and spending the holidays with some of my single friends. Christmas 1993 I spent the holidays alone. Christmas 1994 I spent the holidays with the man I married eight months later. Since Christmas 1995 my husband and I have spent the holidays traveling to places we enjoy.
Could I have ever anticipated how my life would change from what it was to what it is now? Not even remotely. My lifestyle, my career, my life goals have been completely redefined. I am not the same person I was not so many years ago.
Divorce changes you, redefines you. One day you’re married, the next day you’re not. And one day the pain goes away and you wonder how you ever doubted yourself and your capability to survive the loss of the type of life you expected to have forever.
Right now you may be here working through your divorce, beginning your journey or perhaps getting very close to the end of it. Do you remember how you felt a year ago? Where do you think you’ll be a year from now?
It just takes time to make your world right once more.
