Here are more celebrity marriages and divorces which have appeared in the gossip columns over the years. The information has been gathered from sources both on and off the Internet.

Madonna and Sean Penn: The turbulent four-year marriage between this mismatched pair ended in divorce in 1989 when Madonna filed for the third and final time. Because of their aggressive actions toward members of the press, the couple was dubbed “The Poison Penns” by the tabloids.

Roseanne Barr and Tom Arnold: Arnold converted to Judaism when he married Barr. She was too much in love to listen to those who suggested she needed to have a prenup prepared to protect her assets. With no prenup in place, divorce made Tom Arnold a very wealthy man when he exited with a reported $50 million settlement.

Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin: Basinger wanted out of their seven year marriage. In addition to working out custody issues for their daughter, Baldwin kept his “Thomas the Tank Engine” props and Basinger kept a collection of “Welcome to Braselton” signs. Braselton is the Georgia town Basinger bought in 1989.

Nicholas Cage and Patricia Arquette: Cage and Arquette’s 1995 marriage lasted a total of nine months before their first split, were together again for five years before they filed for divorce the first time, then attempted a reconciliation, and eventually Arquette filed and ended the marriage. Cage proposed to Arquette in 1987 the first time they met. Arquette put together a list of things Cage had to do in order for her to accept his proposal.

Nicholas Cage and Lisa-Marie Presley: This marriage lasted just over three months during 2002, coming several years after Presley’s divorce from Michael Jackson and subsequent relationship with a Hawaiian musician several years younger than herself. Cage said “irreconcilable differences” were the reason for the split with Elvis’ daughter. Two months later, Cage married waitress Alice Kim, 20 years his junior.

George Clooney and Talia Balsam: Clooney and Balsom married in 1989. When the marriage ended three years later, Clooney was reported to be so broken up that he vowed he would never marry again and never have any children. Actresses Nicole Kidman and Michelle Pfeiffer, two of Clooney’s co-stars, bet him $10,000 each that he would break the “no children” part of his vow by his 40th birthday. He won the bet.

Steve Martin and Victoria Tennant: The marriage that began in 1986 when Martin and Tennant eloped to Rome ended in 1993 when Tennant, on location filming a miniseries, fell for an Australian TV star. Relationship disaster followed Martin when he immediately got involved with co-star Anne Heche who later dumped him for Ellen DeGeneres.

Vanna White and George Santo Pietro: Married for almost eleven years, the marriage between television personality White and restauranteur Pietro lasted longer than most celebrity marriages. White, who filed, cited “irreconcilable differences” in her divorce petition. The couple has two children.

Robert Downey, Jr., and Deborah Falconer: Downey Jr. and Flaconer were separated for eight of the twelve years of their marriage. They finally filed for divorce when Downey Jr. was ready to marry his next wife, Susan Levin.

Harrison Ford and Melissa Mathison Ford: The Fords were married for eighteen years and with no prenup in place the divorce cost him $118 million. The Fords split in 2001 and he began dating actress Calista Flockhart. It was a second divorce for Harrison Ford.

Heather Locklear and Tommy Lee: Actress Locklear married Motley Crew rocker Lee in 1986. She divorced him in 1993 after he allegedly had sex with porn star Debi Diamond while they were on an adult film set.
