Queen of Broken Hearts

I have several books I’m currently reading that fit into the “light-and-frothy” category. I thought by the title that Cassandra King’s Queen of Broken Hearts would fit into that category. Once I started reading, I found the story to have more substance than I expected. I really enjoyed this book!

The story isn’t new, the heroine is a woman in middle age who has to start over again when her husband dies (or, more typically, leaves her for a young woman). Clare, a therapist, deals with her grief and guilt as she counsels women making their way through the divorce process. And, when the potential for a new life and love comes along, she won’t follow her own advice and let go of the past.

The story takes place in a small Southern town along Alabama’s coast. Author King not only fleshes out her characters so that the reader can empathize with them, she fleshes out their surroundings as well.

Looking for a nice read that will stick with you after the last page? I highly recommend Cassandra King’s Queen of Broken Hearts.
