Divine Complement
I found author Ariadne Green’s book, Divine Complement: The Spiritual Terrain of Soulmate Relationships, to be interesting reading. Green, a popular radio show host, dream expert and spiritual advisor, is also the best-selling author of Ariadne’s Book of Dreams. She holds a graduate degree in Educational Psychology from Cal State Hayward with two years of doctoral study in philosophy and consciousness studies.
Rather than try to give my interpretion of what Green’s book is about, let me quote from the Introduction:
Beyond fantasies of perfection, instead by definition, our Divine Complement, simply put, is our twin soul. Perfect in our eyes or not, they represent that one person to whom we are most connected soul-to-soul and spirit-to-spirit, and with whom we may or may not be offered the opportunity to bond to in this life. They hold inborn potentials that match and complement our own and hold the key to our spiritual evolution. They are our ultimate complementary spiritual partner.
Pairing up with our Divine Complement may happen at 16 or 60 or not at all. Despite the fact that everyone has a soul mate, not all will make it to the altar for reasons that will be illuminated later in this book.
Most of us want the “happy ever after,” the promise of a meaningful and spiritual relationship. It’s not likely that we will attach as much meaning to the relationships that come in and go out of our lives and don’t come close to fulfilling that promise. Still, a lot of us fall in love over and over again, thinking that we have just found the “Real Thing” — our Divine Complement.
Each time we enter a new relationship we believe it is the first time, the only time, or the last time we will fall in love with someone. Maybe it is or maybe it isn’t. Some lucky people meet their Divine Complement early in life. Perhaps they were high school sweethearts who knew from the start they would be sharing a lifetime together. For most, however, the journey to their Divine Complement or soul mate will be a path with many lead-ins, each one of whom is meant to bring us to the emotional maturity to stand alone, as well as along side a complementary equal. Lead-ins often reflect qualities we may admire in the beginning and end up detesting once the romance is over. We co-create with them numerous scenarios of the patterns and inequality that we must outgrow if we are going to succeed at love and equality within relationship. They can lead us to the cliff and push us to the brink of our capacity to love so that we can love ourselves more and prove that we can express love to others. Each offers us a puzzle piece to the larger picture of our destiny and ushers in the fateful lessons that force us to grow. Once our Divine Complement comes through the door we are likely to feel more prepared for the Real Thing.
There’s more to the Introduction but that gives you some idea of what this book is about. Green explains
- why opposites attract,
- tells readers how to find their soul mate,
- explains how dreams can offer proof of a soul mate’s identity,
- has stories of how Divine Complements continents apart found each other,
- discusses the twin soul legacy Jesus and Mary Magdalene left.
I found Divine Complement a little harder to read because of the very long paragraphs used by the author. Otherwise, it was fairly easy and interesting reading.
