Deciding who gets what can get pretty heated during divorce. Depending upon how much the two of you are able to work together, there are ways to keep the asset division somewhat simple.
Sell everything and split the profits.
Let a mediator choose who gets what.
Let an arbitrator decide the property division.
List everything and each choose an item until all are divided.
One person divides property into two “parcels,” the other chooses which parcel they want.
Barter for items of most importance to each of you.
Don’t turn the property division into a battleground.
If an item means little or nothing to you but is important to your spouse, be gracious and let him or her have it.
Court battles mean higher attorney costs and will result in less property to divide.
